World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day is celebrated on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999, "with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard".^[1] Its purpose is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the original UNESCO declaration says, to "give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements".

It was generally celebrated in October, but in the latter part of the 20th century the world community celebrated it on the 15th, the birthday of Virgil, the Roman epic poet and poet laureate under Augustus. The tradition to keep an October date for national or international poetry day celebrations still holds in many countries.^[2] The United Kingdom generally uses the first Thursday in October,^[3] but elsewhere a different October, or even sometimes a November date, is celebrated.

19 Març: DIA DEL PARE – What about FATHER’S DAY in UK?

La diada de Sant Josep, el 19 de març, és el dia en el qual se celebra el dia del pare,

A Catalunya, és tradició aquest dia menjar crema cremada, que per aquest motiu s'anomena també crema de Sant Josep. En canvi, a molts països catòlics el 19 de març, Dia de Sant Josep, és un gran esdeveniment. Sant Josep era el pare de Crist, d'aquí que s'hagi escollit aquest dia per celebrar el Dia del Pare.

A Espanya el dia 19 de març també se celebra el Dia del Pare i és un dia molt important. Es felicita als pares i també a les persones que es diuen Josep o Josepa. Aquestes felicitacions a vegades van acompanyades de petits regals, encara que normalment es donen postals i aquest dia se celebra la família.

S'ha de destacar la celebració que es fa a València, on les falles són l'element festiu més destacable. Les falles són monuments o escultures artístiques, satíriques o grotesques sobre qualsevol cosa, persona, esdeveniment, etc., prou desafortunat per cridar l'atenció dels ulls crítics dels fallers. Totes les escultures són cremades la nit de Sant Josep, excepte l'anomenat «ninot indultat», que es lliura de les flames.
